Today,
ishaan's teacher called me for a meeting.. now, your annual appraisal wont give
u the kind of jitters that a call from the child's teacher will.
so
mater took an afternoon break from office, got to the school. another parent
was having an after school meeting with the teacher, and the teacher was
patiently explaining the various ways of getting the child to know numbers and
letters et al. all this while, mater checked ishaan's exercise books, found his
hindi assignments surprisingly well done, his coloring adequate (it used to be
pathetic), english assignments less than satisfactory... so on.. and mentally
prepared herself for "ishaan needs help with motor skills and with
reading.." or some such..
after
30 minutes, the teacher finished the meeting and came to mater. mater had to
mentally admire her energy levels. to deal with 30 kids for the whole day, and
then with their parents, is no mean task!!
but..
the meeting left me very, very happy!! and here, then, is the reason why mater
left totally "garv se meri chhati phool gayi" types:
· Ishaan
is ok in studies. (you cld hear the sigh of relief for a mile, am sure)
· Very
distracted and talks to Nalin all the time.(nalin is his best friend) but, while he appears to be talking
to someone else and not paying attention, if i stop him suddenly, and ask, what
sound did i say just now? he will say, "v" then i asked him, tell me
a word with v, and he says "van" (and u shld have seen the eyes and
neck going up and down in disdain(how can u ask me such simple stuff!) - i cld
sooo imagine my son doing that expression!! ) . but its not good for this to happen in class.
Teacher's narrative:
Yesterday, Nalin and ishaan threw some pencils
out of the class. i called them. both of them came. Ishaan stood straight, and answered all the questions
truthfully, and normally. neither arrogant, nor shy and crying. he just spoke
the truth , quite simply.
i asked, "did you throw these pencils
out?"
he said, "Yes"
so i took a water bottle and said, "if i
throw this out, how will u feel?"
ishaan: i will feel sad.
teacher: so how shld i feel?
ishaan: you should feel sad. i am sorry teacher.
i will not do it again. promise.
the next day, ishaan stopped nalin from throwing
the pencils outside.
so basically, thats why, i came out feeling very
nice in life..
end of story.
